“Listen to Your Soul and Spirit” By Katherine Sorto

Have you ever wondered about whether you have a “soul” or “spirit”? This topic is transformative as it will help you connect with your mind, body, soul, and spirit (all in one). Some may completely deny the existence of having a soul and spirit, while some, may recognize that there’s more than the physical aspect of our existence. Whether you’re a believer of the Holy Bible, or not, I encourage you to inhale and exhale as you’re about to read words that will change your life.
In Hebrew 4:13, it says “ The Word of God penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit”. In my perspective, we all have a soul and spirit. Our souls and spirits are what makes us unique, not our DNA. Every single person in the planet does have a unique DNA sequence. That signifies that there’s zero possibilities of a person having the same DNA. The only two that can share their DNA are identical twins. Now does a persons DNA live forever? No, unfortunately everyone has an end date at our timeline. Fortunately, our souls and spirits are what we keep forever.
In the beginning of the bible, the first book, Genesis, states “The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul”. This is found in Genesis 2:7. What I found interesting about this verse is that it’s found in the first book of the bible. It’s what is meant for us to discover and cherish for life, along other readings of the creation, and more.
Have you ever felt joy, sadness, excitement, anger, or any similar emotions? In most readings, you will find connections between emotions and the brain, or other scientific explanations. But, I believe in more than science, respectfully. I believe in our souls and spirits being divinely connected with our emotions, our deepest feelings, and how we view life. As you’re reading, I encourage you to take a minute to close your eyes, inhale, and exhale slowly.
Life can get busy! Actually, it can get extremely busy and stressful. Yearly, cardiac arrest rates and heart failures continue to rise up and be the number one cause of death in the United States. Have you ever stopped and wondered , “what if”.. What if you took a break? What if you did more of what you want to? What if you rested a little longer a certain morning rather than waking up to make it on time to work? What if you ate healthier? What if you smiled more and stressed less? Yes, there are a million “WHAT IFS” that can cross your mind. But do you let yourself breathe? Or are you allowing life and society distract you from listening to your inner self (your soul and spirit).
As life goes on, you have to continue to work, maintain your life and find ways to manage all the pieces that come together. But do we listen to our deepest thoughts, our needs, our emotions, our souls and spirits? Do we? I include myself as I ask this question because I’m as human as you are. I’m guilty of allowing life to distract me of myself. Our souls and spirits have existence. For a long time, I tried telling myself that souls and spirits were “made up”. I tried to believe in logic, until one day, I experienced a spiritual connection with the presence of God as I got to my knees and prayed. It was in that moment that I experienced an experience unlike any other. An experience in which I could feel my spirit being transformed, loved, and welcomed after trying to avoid the encounter.
I believe the presence and love of God follows every single person (including nonbelievers). God’s love is unconditional and fierce, to the point that he will not limit love for anyone. There’s no mistake, sin, or wrong that can remove his love. There’s nothing that can separate God from loving us endlessly, and that is beautiful. God’s love for the world is powerful!
I encourage you to stop allowing the world, society, and the people around you to separate you from connecting with your inner self. How can you do that? By giving yourself time to breathe, experience solitude, take a walk or a hike, go out for a dinner, and so on. With whom? On your own. Yes, on your own! Put everything aside, and allow yourself to connect with your soul and spirit. We often silence our souls and spirits to please everyone around us from work obligations, families, children, and life itself. Take a moment to allow your soul and spirit to SPEAK. You won’t hear your soul speak to you directly, but you will feel and connect with your innermost emotions, thoughts, and feelings. You will be able to connect with your soul and spirit as God guides you, redirects you, changes your whole life around , resets your mind, renews all things and aligns you to his will and divine purpose.
Allow God to lead your life by listening more to your soul and spirit, rather than the loud and empty noise coming from the world. Silence everything around you, and allow your soul and spirit to lead you as God speaks. Don’t be afraid to discover your deepest emotions, your heart, or mind by giving yourself that time to think, re-evaluate life, decisions, and your future. Your tomorrow can always be greater than yesterday. Allow your soul and spirit to guide you, to connect with your innermost self as you experience beauty externally. Allow your soul and spirit to let true joy, love, and life enter. Allow your soul and spirit to help you remove people, things, or whatever it may be that you must remove to experience beauty. Allow your soul and spirit to lead. The world will tell us one thing, but our souls and spirits will help us understand what God truly wants for us and from us.
